About the Artist

Art making and meditation are essential
elements of my life. Both processes allow boundaries to soften between
myself and other realms
enabling access to transformative levels of being. Both are catalysts
for deeper understanding. My creative process is intuitive. All
of my art work (painting, drawing and printmaking) is characterized
by an obvious
layering of materials. I apply brush strokes, texture and color
to each art piece based on the previous application. By observing
how these layers
interact aesthetically, I am informed of my next move. Usually
several pieces are in progress at one time. I am fascinated by the
challenge and excitement of interacting with a whole wall of in-progress
paintings.
They seem to take turns requesting my attention and I usually dialogue
with each of the pieces in turn. I am often informed about how
to respond to one painting due to what occurred or didn't occur with
another.
When
I reach the realization of "Yes, it's working" and I don't
know what I could possibly do to bring further resolution the piece
is complete.

"Jane Bergenn uses an impressionist technique in
a loose and energetic manner, also communicating a presence of light
that becomes a state of consciousness as well as a way of seeing."
"She is a gifted painter pursuing a steady course."
"Dynamic! I haven't for a long time seen such vivid
expressions of human energy and emotion."
"Jane Bergenn's paintings include myriad marks and
many layers of paint consonant with many layers of content. The facture
of the work references
her contemplative,
ritualistic art process."
